Enjoyed the patterns podcasts and I will pass them on to others at the college. Queued up a post about them on http://poetsonline.blogspot.com for this Friday.

Many thanks, Ken - will look forward to that.

A superb blog, congratulations! I have used some of your podcasts with students and they found them very useful. Would you consider teaching teachers how to blog? The basics are easy but the technical stuff is quite scary...

SCC English Department said...

Thank you Caroline. Glad you like the podcasts. Drop an email sometime. Everyone can blog at a fairly straightforward technical level!

To the list of novels set in boarding schools, you might consider adding "Saving Miss Oliver's." by Stephen Davenport.
I wrote it based on my forty-year career in independent schools.

SCC English Department said...

Thanks, Stephen - will have a look for it.

Your work here is inspressive!
I was recommended to your blog via a post I made about my hopes to network with a school in Ireland as my class studies Joyce's The Dubliners. Let me know if you think you might be interested. I live in the U.S. and would love the kids to know an authentic perspective. lhlee@lps.k12.co.us

Thank you, Lauren.
An email is on the way to you...

Hi SCC English,
I am a teacher over in New Zealand but originally from the UK. I am currently running something called The Postcard Project which already has over 30 classes from 7 countries with an age frange from Kindergarten all the way to the top end of senior school. We do not yet have anyone from Ireland so it would be great to have you with us.
Take a look at the project here:

If you are interested, leave a comment and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Amazing blog, my 16 year old son has just been told he has dyslexia and is in 5th year, your podcasts will be an unbelievable help to him next year.

If you know of anybody doing a similar blog in other subjects I would love to hear about them.

Keep up the good work.

Patricia

Great blog, really useful material and some really great stuff on mcbeth and Hamlet.

Maybe a bit less content on the home page at one time there is about 20 posts, and it takes forever to load if you internet is not super fast.

Keep up the great work!!

SCC English Department said...

Thanks for kind remarks. Have reduced posts on page, so hope it's faster.

Dear Julian and the SCC English Department

I am a teacher of English at Franciscan College Gormanston Co Meath. I am a keen reader of your blog and find your posts very practical and helpful particularly for Leaving Cert English. Many thanks.

I see a wonderful interview that you conducted in your school with Claire Keegan last March. We at Gormanston would also like to invite some Irish writers to engage with our students. Would you be able to point me in the direction of how I might get in touch with Ms Keegan, please, as we will be reading 'Foster' with our seniors this year? I hope that's not too much trouble.

Best wishes at the start of another academic year.

Yours gratefully
Kathleen Ryan

Hi Julian,

I have been trying to access the 'Show Me' videos for The Great Gatsby. Unfortunately, none of them seem to be playing. I'm just wondering if the problem is occurring on my side or on the website?

Thanks,
Orla

SCC English Department said...

Sorry about that, Orla. They're definitely working for us. However, if you still have difficulties, you could also access them at the ShowMe site itself - http://www.showme.com/course/9711

Hello from Vancouver, Canada! Our grade 11 students have just started their own blogs, linked to mine:

and have been creatively writing about Merchant of Venice, and a few other things.
You have a beautiful blog here!
